Igniting the fire
By Reana Maier
the Carillon

Ember Swift's unique sound will leave tracks in your mind. Her music switches from soaring, lilting notes to punk beats, often in the same song. But she's more than a rare talent. Besides singing, songwriting and instrumentation, the Toronto-based musician is busy running her own independent music label, Few'll Ignite Sound. And she plans to stay independent. "To me, it's not a stepping stone towards bigger things. This is what I do. It's what I'm all about."

Premiering this Friday Dolphins is the second of ten films in the Great Adventure Film Series TM. Produced by MacGillivray Freeman Films, the same makers of Everest and The Living Sea, Dolphins is a follow up to the latter of the two films.

From latex to wool
By Marie Olinik
the Carillon

Look into the mind of a Visual Arts student and you will see the mind of a philosopher. While the rest of the world is stuck in harsh, material reality, the visual artist lives for pondering the very essence of human existence and embodying these thoughts in art. Curated by David Garneau, UNNATURAL?, An exhibition of art concerning the body at the Neutral Ground Art Gallery (March 3 - 23, 2000) shows U of R Visual Arts students portraying different views of reality in thought-provoking ways.
