The Regina crowd at the Jubilee Building Friday night proved why big acts like Edwin will never return to our little city.
No, it's not because of our size. Many popular groups and artists have honoured us with their music and have been embraced by enthusiastic crowds of all sizes.
The audience at this show was incredibly small but their attitudes were even smaller.
When up and coming artist j. englishman hit the stage the crowd didn't go up to the front, the crowd didn't dance, in fact, they barely looked up from their drinks.
The band, obviously frustrated, pleaded with the audience to come and dance, but no response.
Sure, it is understandable that the people are usually there for the headlining act, but with such a small crowd in a big empty dump of a venue, some support would have been appreciated.
Four members of the crowd went up to the stage to hear the band, while the rest stared and whispered about what big losers these four were. Well, at least they were getting excited about something. Needless to say, englishman and his bandmates cut their set short.
And when the highly popular Edwin hit the stage, even his positive music couldn't alter the negative energy in the room. You have to commend him for putting on the best show he could, singing hits like "Trippin'" and "Alive" to a now-screaming crowd of girls who thought Edwin just might take off his shirt for them, and their boyfriends who stood along the sidelines making lewd comments.
Shame on you Regina, this concert could have been something spectacular, considering the talent of these two artists. Throw me a bone Edwin and I'll throw it at the listless crowd that showed how snobbish and rude Regina can be.
