The State of Art: Why Some Artists Are Now Trying To Offend You
Marie Olinik
the Carillon

Distorted photographic collages of human figures in erotic and tormented poses hung on the wall alongside masks of bone, human hair and wire. I had the opportunity to see the work of Diana Thorneycroft recently exhibited in the Winnipeg Art Gallery and I was impressed. It wasn't the actual work that impressed me but the fact that the gallery was displaying it.

It's All Crap:Part II
by Hannah Scissons
the Carillon

So, this guy told me the other day in an undisclosed location that maybe our new students' union president is facing leadership challenges from unnamed men and women who think his time is up already. And then this girl that I go for drinks with mentioned that the incoming president is really despondent about all this unrest among his followers.

Letter: Vote NO on March 29th!!!
Collette Parks

Do we really need another $125 in fees? The URSU will be holding a referendum on March 29th on their new Health and Dental Plan, but if you read the pamphlet they're giving out, it really isn't much of a benefit. Why women should vote no:

Letter: Flavel Supports the Carillon
Paul Flavel

First, I am about to do something I thought I would never do......defend the Carillon. I know last semester I did nothing but highlight the incompetent boobery of the staff but I find that now I must defend the paper that I love to hate. It seems that the Carillon's funding may be cut at the AGM (which will have already taken place by the time this letter makes it to print). It would definitely be a shame to lose one of the only sources that students have for keeping track of the URSU's dealings. If it were not for the Carillon many of us would never hear the sordid details of how the URSU misuses our fees. Besides, don't we all get a good laugh over the Declassifieds every week??

Letter: Kudos to the Admin Society
Collette Parks

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Administration Students' Society on yet another successful Keg-A-Rama. A lot of money was raised for the Firefighter's Burn Fund, and a lot of fun was had too!

Letter: From the Carillon Rant Board
Paul E.

I am indeed distressed at the oppressive attitude Mr Cooper is proposing through his motion to be presented at the upcoming AGM. Let's look at the offending motion (from the URSU website): "It is essential for any organization to be accountable to the individuals who fund it"

Letter: From The Canadian University Press President
Jeremy Nelson
Canadian University Press

The motion to revoke the Carillon's autonomy is based on several willful misrepresentations of the way your newspaper functions on campus. It is the opinion of the Canadian University Press (CUP), a national cooperative of 72 student newspapers with a combined circulation of 410,000 issues weekly, that this motion should not be passed.

Letter: Hey Carillon Revolutionaries!
Lincoln M. Daniels
United Cossack Coalition

First, I would like to clear up my letter from last week. The entire last paragraph about Mark Cooper was filled with Sarcasm (except the bad goatee part), Cooper is a self serving ego maniac who needs a title to feel important. If he was flipping burgers at the local McDonalds he would have business cards reading "Mark Cooper, Vice-President of Beef Productivity".

Letter: An Open Letter to Whomever Defaced the Early Childhood Education Bulletin Board
(an Education student who wishes to remain anonymous)

I don't know who you are. Nor do I understand your sense of humour (if that's what you would call it). Or, are these your views? All I can say is that what you did was a hostile act against women. Could you please tell me or give me some insight into why you wrote the words: 'slut', 'whore', 'floozie', and 'tramp' under some of the elected female's pictures? These pictures are displayed on the third floor Education Building practically across from the female assistant Dean's office.

Letter: In Response to VP Project's Letter
Chris Shauf

It's only been a week or so since the results of the URSU general elections and I've already been the brunt of negative responses - from one of my presidential opponents. I haven't even been 'up to bat' as Student's Union President and am already being called 'invisible' and do-nothing' - again, from one of my presidential opponents. If you feel this way at the completion of my term as president, that would be the appropriate time to critique me - not before I have started. It seems to me, the only 'negative campaigning' occurred after the results were in. That, in my mind, is 'certainly in poor taste.' If you truly have 'respect for our members' Mr. Un-President, please respect their choices as well. I know I do.
