Administration students had nearly $1,000 stolen from their lounge last weekend.
Luckily, the $12,000 raised in the annual fundraiser Kegarama had already been deposited in the bank. The remaining $900 had been intended to cover expenses like pizza and the wind-up cabaret, says Admin. Student Society President Robert Lark.
The theft happened last Saturday night, when someone broke into the societyıs lounge through the ceiling tiles out in the hallway.
³The money was in a locker with two locks on it,² says Link. ³Whoever it was took our pool cues to shimmy open the locks. They also totally wrecked our $400 cabinet.²
Oddly enough, it was the second break-in this month in the Admin. lounge. The weekend before, the new computer the society had purchased was stolen, also from the lounge.
The Admin. students havenıt been the only victims of theft on campus.
During the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race festivities in February, the Engineering studentsı lounge had a variety of memorabilia and trophies stolen from a locked cabinet.
Engineering student Jeremy Thorsen figures about $200 in merchandise was stolen. Although it was originally rumoured that a U of R engineering student was responsible for the prank and that the items would be returned, theyıre still missing.
Lark says he also thinks an Admin. student might be responsible for the recent thefts, because a knowledge was required about when the money would be in the lounge and where it was kept.
Both societies are offering rewards for the return of the stolen goods.
