by Jack Sutherland the Carillon Battle of the Bands reaches the home stretch After weeks of preliminaries and a highly successful semi-final round last week, The Lazy Owl host- ed its final night of semis for the Last Band Standing competition March 22, with every band bring- ing their A-game. The night opened with Yossarian!, and once again their moustachioed bass player was in full effect, gyrating his hips in a way that would have made Elvis blush. By the end of their set, the band had everyone tapping their feet to their infectious tunes. The League of One followed Yossarian! In the biggest "what the fuck!?" moment of the entire competition, the band opened their set with an eight minute epic ... cued to a video screen playing an episode of Dragon Ball Z. The League chugged through their set filled with drum and guitar solos. While it may have been enough to get the band into the semi-finals, it wasn't enough to earn them a spot in the finals. Crowd favourite, The Sinsters, hit the stage without introduction and immediately had the crowd up and on its feet for the duration of their set. There is really no explanation as to how good this band is. You'll have the chance to see them again when they play the final round of the compe- tition. Sylvie closed out the night and gave it their all. However, they weren't able to follow with a show like the one The Sinsters had put on moments before. The finals take place Thursday, March 29, and feature Def 3, Yossarian!, The Sinsters and Rah Rah. |
