News: Hope for African AIDS victims Sports: Disapointing weekend for the Cougars

The Amnesty International Club at the University of Regina recently hosted guest speaker Ruth Grobler for an evening of AIDS awareness.
“The AIDS awareness evening is an awareness-raising event that gives students the opportunity to hear the direct experiences of a woman who has worked on social justice and human rights issues in her community by giving abandoned children a home,” said Yolanda Hansen, President of the Amnesty International club at the U of R.

That popular one-liner from a 1970’s Jerry Reid song was blast over the sound system at the Centre for Kinesiology Health & Sport Saturday night during a second set timeout, and turned out to be a sign of what was to come.

Talking to Mike “Tip” Taylor of The Junction, you could almost forget all the cool-kid posturing that’s been passing as music so often these days. Here is a guy, and a band as a unit, who are “incredibly excited,” about every music-related thing they’re doing. It shows in everything he says, and it’s impossible not to feel excited right along with him.

Commercials. In university we’re taught that commercials are the mind-poisoning tool to get the workers’ blood to fuel the capitalist machine (this notion gets irritating after a while when it’s been sold to you by a baby boomer faux-socialist who gets a healthy salary from the tuition you worked two jobs to earn). And while that may in fact be true, God help me, I love ads. Specifically, those of local television commercials.
