CBC show shoots in Regina
–––
A team from Street Cents, the Emmy award winning CBC television show, was filming at the University of Regina on Friday, November 19, outside the Lazy Owl.
The team was shooting bits for the “Streeter” segment of the show, in which host Darryl Kyte asks questions to random people in various locations all over Canada. The question he was asking people on Friday was, “What is the biggest thing a guy or girl can do to turn you off?”
One of the girls waiting outside the bar thought the biggest turn-off for a girl was socks. Her friends agreed.
“I think sex should be a union between a man and a women, without socks.”
Many of the people lined up outside the Owl seemed excited to appear on camera and enthusiastically answered Kyte’s questions.
The cameraman for the show said “it seemed like a good idea” to film at the University. He was unable to answer any more questions, however, because he was busy with his job at the time. “I need to concentrate, but thank you for your interest.”
Host Darryl Kyte answered questions after they were done filming. He said they were there because “Street Cents is a show that goes across the country, and we try to have a national presence ... that’s why we’re in Regina right now.”
“The team was not going to [go to] the bars at all, they just decided to come to the University of Regina. On a Friday night this was where everybody was, so that’s why we’re here.”
Kyte said the show came to Regina to do an item called “Winterize My Ride,” which is “kind of a take on Pimp My Ride,” in which the show gets somebody’s car ready to face the Saskatchewan winter.
Kyte has been working for the popular program since 2001, when he interned on the show. He completed his degree in journalism at the University of Kings College at Dalhousie in Halifax. Through his internship, he got his job as a host after graduation.
“It is a great job. A ‘job of a life-time’ might be going too far because I’m not making millions of dollars, but it is a great job.”
Kyte also said that he “loves Regina,” and that “Regina is a beautiful place. Everyone is being really nice and I look forward to coming back.”
