Not many students are aware that the University closes officially at 11 pm and doesn't open until 7am.
This doesn't affect most students (who are home at that time), but for certain groups of students - it seems imperative that they stay late at night at school.

Residences anticipate Y2K

If students expect to remain in the residence during the Christmas break, their reason for staying will have to be a legitimate one.
The so-called millennium bug (Y2K) is one factor that forced all University of Regina residences to plan for possible emergencies. This year, the residences have made a common request that all students go home for the holidays.

New policy denies loans

As a result of some students finding their student loans insufficient and having to drop out of school, a new "unmet need" policy has been implemented by Saskatchewan Student Loans this year.
Brady Salloum, Executive Director of the Student Financial Assistance Branch says that some students start school and then are unable to finish because they do not have enough funding to complete their training.

Access 2000 launches campaign

TORONTO (CUP) - The Canadian Federation of Students, Canada's largest student group, launched their national education campaign this past Wednesday aimed at wrestling billions of dollars from Ottawa.
Choosing Ontario as their kick off spot, press conferences were held in Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Sault St Marie, Toronto, Sudbury, North Bay and Windsor.

Tortillas Express replaces
Taco Bell

Students were surprised when they returned to campus this fall to find that the Taco Bell in the University Center food court was gone and in its place was the new Tortillas Express.
Tortillas Express is the new food chain brought in by Aramark food services. The University of Regina, University of Saskatchewan and the University of Manitoba have all taken Taco Bell out of their food courts.

Denee Boudreaux, a first year Arts student at the University of Regina is, like many students, divided between the convenience of campus food, and less expensive brown bag rations.
"I usually bring my lunch, because food is cheaper at grocery stores, but sometimes I eat at the Lab Cafe because it's close and all my friends eat here."

As students are plagued with soaring tuition fees, offers of "free money" in the form of bursaries and scholarships become increasingly attractive.
"The main objective of the school's scholarship and bursary program is to keep good academic students in the province, assist in financial needs, and recognize academic achievement," says Clarence Gray, Assistant Registrar for the University of Regina.
