The Cougars - or what eventually will be called Cougars - lost a tight game to Brandon University 4-3.
The Cougars Men's hockey team, largely composed of rookies, lost to the Brandon Bobcats in Brandon on Saturday. Fourteen of the 15 rookies left suited up and played.
"I think they have to get used to or acquainted with the type of league we're in," said coach Bill Liskowich, who has seen more than his fair share of rookies come through in the past decade.
"I thought our boys played very well. We could have won but we didn't."
The Cougars got two goals from Shane Lanigan and one from John Reynoldson. The Bobcats Scott Hlady scored the winner for the Bobcats with five minutes left.
The Cougars now bus to UBC to see the U of Alberta Golden Bears, the hometown Thunderbirds, and York Yeomen.
The team wonıt be back to see the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre until October 16 when they play a home at home weekend set against the university of Saskatchewan Huskies.
The Cougars will play the Huskies on Friday, October 15 at the Rutherford Rink in Saskatoon, before the Huskies make the return trip on the 16th.
Editorıs Note: For those of you who donıt know the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre is on the east side of Regina, just north of CKCK-TV. Itıs a bit of a drive, but well worth it.
