Women's team looks for title

Expectations are running high in the U of R Cougars women hockey dressing room this year. Coach Sarah Howland says the team's only goal is to win the Canada West conference.
The players agree adding "The improvement [will be] amazing [over last year]," and "We have a chance. . . honest."

The Cougars - or what eventually will be called Cougars - lost a tight game to Brandon University 4-3.
The Cougars Men's hockey team, largely composed of rookies, lost to the Brandon Bobcats in Brandon on Saturday. Fourteen of the 15 rookies left suited up and played.

The "tough guys" never give up

A few years ago, you were about as likely to see Eric Lindros playing for the Nordiques as you were to see Reed Low in the NHL. But this season, it just might happen.
He is what is referred to as a 'tough guy', a player who will spark his team by dropping the gloves against the opposition. It really is a tough, thankless job.

1999 Women's basketball preview

Third time was a charm for the Cougars last year, as they finally won the GPAC title. At CIAU nationals, the team lost the first game by two points to eventual champions U of Alberta, but rebounded on the consolation side to end up fifth in the country.
There are four new recruits hoping to fill in the shoes of graduated fifth year players Amy Mickleborough (Academic All-Canadian), Medorann Harris and Jasmine Weseen, as well as injured post player Reanne Brown, who had reconstructive surgery on her knee two weeks ago.
