Students, faculty, and visitors to the University of Regina will have greater convenience when it comes time to park their vehicles, says the Physical Plant.
The new, one-level, 35,000 square foot fully heated underground parking facility will house 102 vehicles when it opens.
"Anybody with money will be able to park (in the new parkade,)" said Dave Button, director of the Physical Plant.
"(Patrons) will go ahead and park and then
buy a pass for how long they want to park. Much like the parking downtown."
The new parkade will issue the parking passes via numerous automated teller machines throughout the parkade.
Patrons will be able to purchase passes using credit cards and coins at a rate of one dollar per half hour.
Day passes valid until six can be purchased at a price of seven dollars. An evening pass can be purchased for $2.50, and a 24-hour pass can be purchased for eleven dollars.
Button acknowledged that while parking in the new parkade is more expensive, the advantage is convenience.
"Nobody will be able to park in the new parkade on a permanent basis," he explained.
"The main thing is that the new parkade will have quick accessibility for people who maybe want to go to the University Centre for a concert or other services. Its purpose is for convenience."
The parkade will have four accesses into the University Centre including two elevators with hands-free accessibility.
