URSU executive voted in with a bang The Students' Union elections came to a close Tuesday, witnessing the best voter turnout in recent years. Just under one thousand, or almost ten per cent of eligible voters, made their voices heard during the election by casting ballots for next year's Students' Union executive. Unofficially, the 1998-99 executive will consist of Sean McEachern as President with Jamie Reban as Vice-President Academic and Muhoza Hakizimana as Vice-President Administration. Chief Returning Officer Angela Mann feels that the elections were a success, although she does acknowledge a few minor problems such as a staffing shortage, but no real smear campaigns. "The candidates were really good, they got along well with each other. It wasn't a dirty campaign at all." The polling booth in the University Centre had the best turnout with approximately 210 voters. The Education Building followed a close second with approximately 185 voters. McEachern won the race for URSU President by defeating candidates David McGrane, Kim Krett, Eileen Wadel, and Hitomi Suzuta. Reban won Vice-President Academic defeating Jason Bethune, Mark Cooper, and Damon Sklar. Hakizimana defeated Jerred Moore and AAron Sklar for his seat on the executive. McEachran attributes his win to a well-run campaign. See Story...
